Cowgirl Cake!

To start off... I'd just like to say that a swamp cooler and fondant do NOT go together...
It was way too warm in my house for this fondant to set up properly. I was fighting with it the whole time, and I had to have my mother dearest text her friends from work in the Costco Bakery to give me pointers half the night on what to do with this sticky fondant!

I have looked at it for far too long, so I'm not exactly thrilled with how it turned out. But the cute girls I made this cake for said they loved it. :)
Just don't look too closely ;)

I made my little accessories out of fondant too. The cowgirl belt was probably the easiest.. ( only because my mom actually rolled it out and cut it for me ;) ) And we found the cute little felt hat down in our Christmas decorations. It had a cute little finishing touch to the cake.

The stars and horseshoes were a little bit tricky with all the silver food spray I put all over them. And as you can see, my fingerprints took most of the spray off. BUT.... I did stop off at WalMart on my way out to Veyo to pick up some more spray (since I ran out) and I touched up the horseshoes and stars in the parking lot before I delivered the cake :) I just forgot to take better pictures :/

So.. If anyone wants a fondant cake... I'll have to remember we need the A/C on before I attempt to start any fondant making!

Again.. Don't look too closely at all the details.. :x

Happy 14th Birthday Girls!!!

Until next time!

Go Chargers!

To celebrate Jaden's 13th Birthday.... He got a Chargers cake!
I don't know much about the Chargers, but their colors are yellow and blue with a lightening bolt as their sports mascot.
So... Erin and I were looking through 'Charger Cakes' on Pinterest and Google, and we came up with the idea of making a curved lightening bolt cake! Go figure!

It was super fun to make, and it was also a pain in the butt since I'm so stinking short!
I had to get on a chair to see over the top of the counter so I could make sure I was making the lightening bolt look the way it was supposed to look.

I started out with 2 sheet cakes, and I had the batter colored yellow and blue, then I just marbled them together, like so:

I was getting anxious while making these since it was around 8pm. So I already had the other cake in the oven when I took this picture.

After they were baked and cooled, I put them in the freezer between sheets of parchment paper.
I was worried that the sheets of parchment paper would stick to the bottoms of the cakes, but when I peeled them off, they came off perfectly! Such a great minuscule detail when working with cakes.

So I cut the cake layers into a LIGHTENING BOLT.... And once I had my two layers stacked on top of each other... it looked like a puny little cake. So I had the grand idea to piece together the rest of the cakes I had already cut into. And I was able to get 4 layers out of my 2 cakes!

The marbled effect on cakes is just so awesome to me! :D

And of course, we can't forget Jaden's jersey number! Jaden #17!

His mama said he loved the cake, and it was the perfect amount of cake for all their party guests!
Happy 13th Birthday Jaden!!

Thanks for reading :) Now to go post my latest girly cake!

Oh My Heels!

If anybody knows me.. They would know that these cookies are.. ME TO A TEE!
I love high heels.. My mother likes to pretend I don't have this crazy love, but even she knows I can't help it when.. I buy new high heels.. And nail polish. And makeup... Ahem..
At least these ones were edible!!!!!

I also have this sick obsession for wanting a pair of $1,000+ pair of Louboutin high heels....
That's where I got the idea to do these fancy high heels. The ones that have the red soles are Louboutin inspired. :D
Yeah, I know it's crazy.. But just browsing images of Louboutin heels feed my shoe addiction for me. ;)

I found images that I wanted to use for my cookies, and I printed them, then cut them out and laminated them so I could get the perfect sized high heels, nail polish, lipstick, and perfume bottle outlines.
Then I just whipped up some royal flood icing, and got busy creating girly cookies!

Ever since our Kitchen-Aid broke.. I've been having to use the Bosch a bit more. And while I love it and all it can do.. It just doesn't give me the right consistency for my royal icing. I think I might have over whipped this batch before I added my colors and what not. So they didn't dry as smoothly as my other cookies have before. I'm keeping my eye out for a new Kitchen-Aid! (Christmas/Birthday present idea??)

These little circle cookies were just for fun.. They didn't have any great link to the Louboutins or the make up.. Although now that I think about it.. They could easily pass as blush pallets? Who knows!

Thanks for reading! After this overwhelming GIRLY project.. I'll proudly announce that I have a football cake to make this week! :D Wish me luck!!!
